Winchester Model 57 Manual Rating: 4,5/5 8207 reviews

Hello folks, I've only a few posts under my belt, hoping someone can answer a few questions for me. I came across a Winchester model 57 in.22 short.

( I know, I know, holy @#$%!) It is just as beat as hammered hell, but im attempting to gingerly get it back in shape. Coupla things: The Lyman 42W rear peep sight, missing both the disc and elevator, (and I guess the wee screw that holds the disc on too) this was common I guess? Cant find a single one not missing the elevator. Any ideas besides e-bay and gun broker? And is there an exploded diagram out there anywhere on the 42W so I could see exactly what its missing?

There are reams written in reference to win mags, but I couldn't find anything about the mag having to be specifically a.22 short mag or not. I guess it would have to be an 'adaptor' mag if not? You have 3 options; 1) Search eBay, GB, etc. For an orignal 57.22 short magazine with the marked follower (see my magazine sticky at the top of the page) - 2) Use a Winchester 69 marked.22 short magazine which are much more plentiful and cheaper. 3) Order a replacement.22 short magazine from Numrich - As for the Lyman 42W, the aperture is.3125' in diameter and is the same aperture as the Lyman 55W and a few others. I believe replacement apertures are still available from Lyman - Also, Joe at Apertures-N-More can make a replacement for you at a reasonable cost. - Joe Hulett (JLH here at RFC) Apertures-N-More (231)-943-0653 I don't know what you are refering to with the 'screw that holds the disc on', the aperture disc screws directly into the windage arm which is retained on the elevator arm by a small screw.

The elevator is loosened by the lever on the side. Did you mean 'windage arm' instead of 'elevator'?

The elevator arms on most of the ones I have seen are intact, it is the windage arm and aperture that frequently get lost. Can you post or PM the serial # of your rifle so I can add it to my database? Throw some pictures up when you can. Hope this helps, Regards. Congrats on finding a nice rare rifle.
