My brother gave me a Honda B100-S s/n 1700496 which has sat in his barn for several years. I drained & flushed the gas can, removed the spark plugs & shot a teaspoon of engine oil into each cylinder and then spun the engine by the starter rope for about 10 pulls to lubricate the cylinders. Attached the fuel hose & opened the drain plug on the carb and pumped the primer bulb until a good stream of clean gasoline came out of the drain port (didn't see any rust or dirt.) Put the lower unit in a 5 gallon bucket full of water, choked it, and darn thing started on the 3rd pull.

Runs good and even has a good stream of water coming from the indicator. So I would like to change the impeller, engine oil, & gearlube and then see about mounting it on my Lund Tyee for a kicker motor. I wouldn't be surprised to find out it may need prop shaft seals or have some leaking gaskets, etc. But it runs good enough that I am willing to deal with those problems if they arise. Provided I can find parts for this 1980's? Does anybody have a source for the factory parts & service manuals?

You can get a zillion Google hits on the BF100 models but I haven't found a paper or.PDF manual that is specifically for the B100's Mod EDIT: Solicitation removed Any help is greatly apreciated. I appreciate your response and apologize if requesting to buy an item from other members was against forum rules. Your first link references the Honda BF100 series but mine is a B100. Are these basically the same engines or at least similar enough that common service such as water pump replacement, carb rebuild, etc are the same?

The Honda Marine BF75, BF100, BF8A Outboard Shop Manual covers service and repair procedures for the BF75 (7.5hp), BF100 (10hp), and BF8A portable outboard motors. The Honda Marine BF75DK3, BF90DK4 Outboard Shop Manual and BF100A supplement cover service and repair procedures for the BF75DK3, BF90DK4, and BF100A outboard marine engines.

My research of available photos of both series motors seems to show the only visible differences are the control location such as the Forward-Neutral-Reverse shifter. But I haven't found a parts catalog for the B100 yet.

Question: With cover off facing the engine (tiller side) there are two (2) yellow painted locking screws, the screw on the left hand side controls the position of a 'Y' shaped yoke that slides through the switch that stops the motor from staring in gear. With the gear shift leaver in the 'N' positon where is the lug positin setting in the gove, I suspect it should be flush with the flat surface on the forward side of the grove. As I do not have a repair manual, I would like to know the correct setting. Note; I have found the name of the 'The Man' on the web site who is most helpful WRT to Honda outboards Less Lampman ( should double check name but will lose what i just typed) later. His readings WRT HP, souping up Honda's and maintenance are some the best I have read, not sure how to track him down but will continue. Of course i will trial my Honda which is really an 8 HP because rated HP back then was flywheel HP verus prop HP on new Honda's hmmm this leads me to believe a new Honda 8 HP with a high thrust prop would be more than i now currently have in my BF100.

But.it is simple & cost effective to soup up the 9.9 Hondas to 13.5 HP and not damage the engine.Having said this, it would not effect the performace at crusing speeds (5.5kts) on our Kelts but would provide a power bost if we shoud require it.cost effect perhaps not but then again 8 max verus 9.9-13-5 for about 700 bucks for our sweetheart is not a big expense. Running engines in salt water verus fresh water may deminish the life of the motor, but with proper maintenance not a real issue here. Mr Moore; Thanks to you and Affordable Yachting for the asssitance, it is greatly appreiciated. Although it did not specifically address my problem it helped in several other areas of interest. I was lucky to find another member with same motor, so i sneeked a peak at his setting and will make minor adjustments when I do my spring basin trials.

Here is some other info for consideration The B75's (7.5 hp) were first, starting in 1973. They're completely white. The BF75 (7.5 hp) was an improved version of the B75 and started in 1978.

The BF100 was introduced at the same time with bigger carb jets and different cam for 9.9 hp. In 1987 they started rating hp at the prop instead of the flywheel. The BF75 was dropped (it puts out about 6 hp at the prop) and the BF100 was given the new designation of BF8 to reflect the 8 hp it put out at the prop. 1988 pontiac firebird service repair manual. It is still available and the oldest continuous model in Honda's line up: 1978 to present.
